This investigation examined the "Influence of Silicon and Nutrients on Growth, Flowering, and Corm Traits of Gladiolus (Gladiolus grandiflorus L.) cv Pusa Shanthi," conducted during consecutive seasons (2021-22 and 2022-23) at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi. A randomised block design with 12 treatments repeated three times was used to evaluate the effects of silicon application (30, 60, and 90 kg/ha in soil; 1% and 2% foliar), vermicompost, and RDF (200:100:100 kg NPK/ha). Essential growth indices, including plant height, leaf count, leaf duration, and stem girth, have markedly improved with the application of mixed packages of silicon (60 kg/ha soil and 1% foliar) in conjunction with RDF and vermicompost. Treatment T11 produced taller plants (121.83 cm), a greater leaf count (8.89), and increased stem girth (11.86 mm) in comparison to the control treatments. The blooming and quality of flowers were significantly enhanced, with T11 achieving early flowering (100.50 days), longer spikes (103.96 cm), a bigger number of florets per spike (21.84), and improved vase life (14.22 days). In corm trends, T11 exhibited the highest quantity of corms per plant (2.49) and cormels per plant (41.48), along with enhanced corm weight (38.34 g) and diameter (5.70 cm). The results highlight silicon's role in improving nutrient absorption, stress resilience, and overall plant efficacy. This study demonstrates the potential of combining silicon with vermicompost and RDF as a sustainable method to enhance growth, blooming, and corm production in Gladiolus, facilitating further research in various climatic and soil conditions.
This study aims to compare the pomological characteristics, oil yield, and physicochemical parameters of olive oils from Azeradj and Gordal of Sevilla cultivars grown in Setif (North-eastern of Algeria). Fruits were harvested at similar maturity indices (Azeradj: 3.83 and Gordal of Sevilla: 3.92) according to International Olive Council (IOC) standards. Azeradj demonstrated a slightly higher oil yield (13.04%) compared to Gordal of Sevilla (11.95%), with residues of 84.23% and 82.60%, respectively. Significant differences in fruit dimensions were observed; Gordal of Sevilla fruits were longer (2.3 cm) and wider (1.7 cm) than those of Azeradj (2.2 cm and 1.55 cm), confirming Gordal of Sevilla's suitability as a table olive. Chemical analyses of olive oils showed both varieties producing extra virgin olive oil, meeting IOC standards for acidity (Azeradj: 0.62% and Gordal of Sevilla: 0.67%), iodine index (Azeradj: 75.96 and Gordal of Sevilla: 76.60), and peroxide value (3.5 meq O₂/kg for both). These findings highlight the potential of the two cultivars for differentiated valorization, supporting the local olive oil industry's development.
The objective of this study is to demonstrate the impact of pollution on the fish population in the Ain Zada Dam, where the quantity of fish has experienced a dramatic decline, dropping from 118,139 kg in 2010 to only 7,578 kg in 2022, with a concerning low of 6,335 kg recorded in 2018. The main causes of this pollution are contamination by organic materials, including nitrates, nitrites, phosphates, and ammonium, which serve as nutrients for plankton and plants. This leads to their dense growth and proliferation in the reservoir and on the water surface. They consume oxygen and block light from reaching the reservoir’s waters, reducing oxygen production by the plants within the reservoir. This results in an accumulation of organic matter, a phenomenon known as eutrophication. The COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand) of 84.6 mg/l and the BOD5 (Biochemical Oxygen Demand over 5 days) of 6 mg/l recorded in 2022 confirm a drastic reduction in oxygen levels, with a recorded value of 7.6 mg/l in 2022. These levels fall below the permissible thresholds of 7 mg/l in summer and 10 mg/l in winter, highlighting the urgent need for intervention to address this situation..
In the genre of diasporic literature, Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni's novels stand out as vibrant masterpieces that combine the experiences of immigrant women through the perspective of sisterhood. This work analyses the psychological nuances of Divakaruni's characters and explores how sisterhood represents the immigrant reality. This study aims at how sisterhood is presented in Divakaruni's extraordinary novels, centering on the psychological stresses and achievements characterizing the characters' lived experiences. Through close textual analysis of "The Mistress of Spices," "Sister of My Heart," "Oleander Girl," and "Queen of Dreams," this research employs feminist and postcolonial theories to analyze complexities of sisterly roles and relations within diaspora cultures. From the narratives of Divakaruni, it is evident that sisterhood is a complex interaction that can be supportive, empowering, and conflicting. The main characters lead their families through the dilemmas of cultural conservation and adjustment to new conditions; their sisterly bonds help perpetuate preexisting traditions and stimulate the transformation process. The study explains how Divakaruni employs the theme of sisterhood to represent the situation of immigrant women of color in redefining their cultural identities in the new environment. This study is helpful in the ongoing discussions about the diaspora literature, and its findings reveal how the relationship between sisters can help improve our understanding of how immigrants navigate cultural change and individually develop an identity. The issues of sister relationships in Divakaruni's works come out clearly and contribute to conveying the Indian immigrants and the circumstances they undergo as they seek to build their new homes abroad and ask questions about their identity..
Aiming at the low chassis of the conventional cutter-sunner, the lateral spreading structure of the vertical cutting table leads to the difficulties in side-row harvest, the poor quality of cutter-sunner spreading, and the poor pass-through performance of the machine and other problems. The design of a high ground clearance suspended cutter-sun machine, the use of the middle laying form, the transmission system using hydraulic motor drive. The whole machine structure is mainly composed of a frame, transmission device, suspension device, reciprocating cutter, screw conveyor roller, grain separator and hydraulic system. Kinematics, dynamics and finite simulation analysis were conducted for the suspension mechanism of the sun cutter, and the results show that the designed suspension structure can meet the requirements in field operation. Taking the coefficient of variation of spreading width and the coefficient of spreading uniformity as the indexes, the forward speed of the unit and the rotational speed of the main drive shaft as the influencing factors, orthogonal tests were conducted, and through the establishment of the regression equation model, the optimal working state of the cutter-sunburner was acheived obtained when the forward speed of the unit was 1.028m/s and the rotational speed of the main drive shaft was 430.042r/min. After several tests, the coefficient of variation of spreading width is 5.897% on average, and the coefficient of spreading uniformity is 104.251% on average. The results show that the cutter-sun dryer can complete the cutting and laying operation at one time under normal working condition, with neat stubble cutting, smooth conveying and orderly laying, which can meet the requirements of subsequent drying , picking and threshing operations.
